The Nile, Before It Leaves Uganda

Murchison Falls is not a single viewpoint but a river journey filled with elephants, shoebills and immense physical force.

Upstream, the Nile appears broad and almost leisurely. Hippos hold the shallows, elephants come to drink and the boat moves at the river’s pace.

Then the banks tighten. Water is forced through a seven-metre cleft and the landscape becomes sound, spray and pressure.

We prefer to experience Murchison twice: slowly by private boat and from above the gorge on foot. Together they explain the scale of the place.
