Meet Samburu’s rare northern cast: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.
Northern Kenya changes the safari vocabulary. Familiar species give way to elegant adaptations: giraffes patterned like fine lattice, zebra with narrow inked stripes and gerenuk feeding upright among the acacias.
The so-called Special Five are not trophies on a list. They are an invitation to notice ecology—how heat, distance and scarce water shape bodies and behaviour.
Allow three or four nights. The north reveals itself slowly, especially when walking and night drives are part of the plan.
